"Great coffee" 2010-09-29

Coffee in Italy always tastes different, even coffee made at home. I could never produce the richness here, could never get that golden foam around the cup and coffee bars here weren't much better. I find that one local coffee bar makes espresso with regular American large grind coffee. It just doesn't work. Perhaps water or the altitdude have an effect too. Who knows? My aunt, who owned a bar in Italy, recommends buying coffee that said it was produced for bars; usually labeled "gusto bar". It was for this reason that I went to the Lavazza Bar brand and have never turned back. I have tried many others, even in the Lavazza line and this, so far, is the best. I know there are others who have given it a bad review, but I ask how they made their coffee. Was it in a drip pot or in an espresso coffee pot? Did they experiment with using more or fewer grounds? It takes a bit before you get the knack. You can't make espresso and expect it to taste right, or expect it to taste like real espresso, unless you use it in the pot it was intended for no matter what the label may say. It's ground to a certain consistency for a reason. This coffee is ground for espresso machines and for Italian coffee pots that are used on the stove. Will Lavazza Bar taste like what I have in my cousin's home Italy? No, but it's pretty darn close.

This is the 3rd type of Lavazza coffee I have tried and have loved every one. They each have their own notable characteristic and this one is no exception. It is so creamy and round that it reminds me of black velvet. Yet, it has just the tinge of a bite to it to make it interesting and stand apart from the others. A definite winner for us. Can't believe the price on these either! Exceptional!

I always read reviews but never write one. The pleasure I had from drinking this coffee forced me to do so. It's the best of all Lavazza. It goes along with il Perfetto. Very deep and rich taste, especially if you make the grind finer. Good caffeine amount. If you are looking for low caffeine, try Pienaroma. Enjoy :)

I would rate the Gran Riserva below Lavazza's Tierra! and Super Crema for sure. It isn't as flavorful as the Crema e Aroma, but is less acidic. I like(d) it better than the Qualita Oro, which is priced outrageously. For the price, the Gran Riserva also offers less value than the Pienaroma. I don't remember the Gran Riserva's characteristics that well - so it wasn't memorable, I guess. :-) Nothing much wrong with it, either. My expectations must have been high because it's called "Gran Riserva".

If it was on sale, I would buy it. It's probably better than most other espresso beans; it is - after all - a Lavazza.

I had been purchasing the cafe espresso by lavazza in the black cans but decided to try this stuff and liked it even more. I had brought back a bag of the black stuff from Europe and liked it alot. This stuff is even better though. I have an espresso machine and this tastes the most like espresso you would get at a cafe in Europe. They sell it ay my local grocery store for $10 a can but this is a much better deal. It is on sale often as well through amazon.

I have tried many different brands of espresso over the years, this is the best of the best. It has a very rich flavor, slightly bitter, but not too much. And the aroma, it makes the entire house smell fantastic! I use a stovetop espresso maker, as well as a DeLonghi espresso maker. The Lavazza comes out perfect in either case. My Italian cousin-in-law recently taught me how to make real authentic Italian espresso and cappuccino and Lavazza is her first choice over all other brands. It is so rich and smooth and I have to agree after we ran out of Lavazza and went hunting unsuccessfully for more and ended up buying two other brands. No comparison as there was such a difference in taste. I threw out the other two cans and went hunting on the internet that night and found it the cheapest on Amazon (my favorite place to shop on the Internet). Anyway, signed up for the subscription service and LOVE it. Just about when I was on my last can of Lavazza, here comes an e-mail notifying me that Amazon was about to make another shipment. Perfect timing. Love, love, love this service. By the way, my husband is a die-hard Starbucks fan (very strong coffee) and likes his best as a blend of Lavazza and Starbucks.

I had bought this via Amazon's subscribe and save since (1) I have had previous great experiences with Lavazza, (2) the price was great on Amazon and (3) I wanted to try a product that was advertised as "Low Caffeine".

The coffee was sour. My espresso machine had a very hard time creating a nice creama. Did I mention the coffee was sour???

I ordered this coffee to taste it. It leaves an unfinished taste that falls short of a satisfying cup of coffee. I grind my beans using a burr grinder and use an automatic espresso machine and it still fails to hit the spot! I hope Lavazza reevaluate this coffee.

Perfect for superautomatic espresso machines (beans are not greasy). I've saved thousands of dollars over the past five years making my own lattes, cappuccinos and mochas at home. The current coffee count on my superautomatic Gaggia 90501 Titanium SS Super Automatic Espresso and Cappuccino Machine, Stainless Steel is 4,255. "Charbucks" charges $3.20 for a one-shot latte using burnt-tasting espresso - 4,255 lattes over five years would have cost me $13,616! A bi-monthly subscription to Lavazza beans is the only way to go.
