Anyway, we were very happy with the taste - especially considering the cost. Once we got the settings right on the Gaggia, every espresso and latte has been great. Blows Starbucks away.

I love this coffee. It makes GREAT espresso drinks, though I prefer lattes and capuccinos. Lavazza is one of the top brands in Italy (and elsewhere in Europe, having scene their product in other countries). I have also enjoyed Rosa and the pre-ground in the black can (for stovetop espresso percolators).



Some people reviewing this product appear to be uneducated about coffee, claiming this is NOT espresso, either because it doesn't say "espresso" on the bag or because it's not a dark roast. The truth is "espresso" refers to a process of making a coffee beverage, not the roast or the bean itself. A coffee bean is a coffee bean is a coffee bean. How you roast it, grind it, send water through it, serve it or drink it is up to you. Lavazza probably didn't put the word "espresso" on it for one of two reasons: 1) In Italy it's just assumed that if you're normal you're having espresso (probably straight); or 2) Lavazza knows that you may do whatever the heck you want with their beans as long as you keep buying them.



Lavazza Oro is a great coffee. I love the caramel aroma when I first open the bag of beans. I don't usually drink straight espresso, so I can't comment on how Oro fares as a straight shot. It seems to make a really nice crema, though that is somewhat controlled by the grind and the machine. I have a super-automatic espresso machine, and its manufacturer actually recommends NOT using darker, oilier roasts because they may gum up the grinder or brewing apparatus. I've been drinking mainly plain lattes with this coffee, and I think they're phenomenal. I really miss it if I'm away from home and have to settle for an overpriced, burnt alternative from a mermaid of Seattle.



I love that Amazon will ship me four bags of Lavazza Oro every month on subscribe and save, although I've noticed the price jumping up in the past few months. I hope the price stabilizes or drops back down. It's currently a real value compared to another Italian espresso giant that comes in silver cans. Those other guys make delicious coffee, but they're a little too pricey for me to justify buying regularly.

This is really good stuff. This coffee has a creamy chocolatiness about it that always makes me want some when I wake up in the morning. I make mine in a 8 cup French press. 5 heaping scoops with a couple of spins in a $10 krups ginder and 3 minutes in filtered freshly boiled water and I am in Heaven. My mother tells me that this is even good without milk or sugar, which should say something.



I should note that some people give this coffee bad reviews because they believe it is espresso. It is not. Repeat: THIS IS NOT ESPRESSO. Look at the picture or read the packaging if you find it in a store. It is not espresso. Amazon listed it incorectly. Don't give this coffee bad reviews because of someone at Amazon who made a mistake.



I should also note that if you want any coffee to retain it's flavor you should not leave the coffee in the bag. You can always smell the coffee through the bag which means that the bag is not air tight and the flavor of the coffee is dissipating into the air. As soon as you get any coffee you should always put it in a plastic container that is air tight and stored out of direct sunlight. Do not store coffee in the freezer because the air cycling will also suck the flavors away.

I lived in Italy for several years, and Lavazza was my coffee of choice, This isn't the same by a long shot -- the roast is anemic, and the resulting espresso is thin and tasteless. The underlying flavor is has some of the distinctive notes from 'real' lavazza, but that really doesn't compensate for the under-roasting.

This coffee tastes weak and old. Cream is very thin. I don't know the roast date, but it still had about year and half to expiration date. This is strange by itself- top quality coffee is good for about 1 month after the roast. It can survive longer, when beans are packed in a nitrogen filled sealed container, but this coffee came in a regular valved bag. The beans are well roasted, not burned, maybe they'd tasted better when fresh.

Gave it 2 stars because it is still better than a cheap coffee from a supermarket, which I consider 1 star benchmark.

First time experience with Lavazza Tierra! I have been getting the espresso bean from a local roasting company. I don't have any problem, but my wife wants more aroma from my espresso shot. The reason I got the Lavazza Tierra!

But, no success so far. I have the Bezzera bz07 machine with a Rockey grinder. I only got very light crema from Lavazza Tierra! also I don't smell any aroma. I tried pulling a shot with a bottomless portafilter, it looks very awful. I think the bean is old.

Perfect for superautomatic espresso machines (beans are not greasy). I've saved thousands of dollars over the past five years making my own lattes, cappuccinos and mochas at home. The current coffee count on my superautomatic Gaggia 90501 Titanium SS Super Automatic Espresso and Cappuccino Machine, Stainless Steel is 4,255. "Charbucks" charges $3.20 for a one-shot latte using burnt-tasting espresso - 4,255 lattes over five years would have cost me $13,616! A bi-monthly subscription to Lavazza beans is the only way to go.

This is my preferred coffee. I drink this daily. Strong but smooth and never bitter. I like this particular packaging since it gives me enough coffee for 3 to 4 weeks. So I can order it via Amazon Subscribe and Save. These bags are pretty large, so make sure you have some good air-tight containers to store the beans in once you've opened the packaging. One issue I have is that some of the time, the bags arrive without the vacuum seal intact. (Normally the beans will be vacuum-packed and you can see bumps in the packaging caused by the tight fit over the beans. Like in the picture. I have not noticed this detracting from the flavor though I expect it does somewhat.

This has a bit of a sour taste. If you like a dark roast and full flavor for your espresso, try something else. Starbucks espresso roast is better. Illy dark roast is even better.

Lavazza coffee suits our taste better than anything else we've bought for home brewing. It has the depth of taste of a good coffee without the bitterness than can accompany some. It's hard to make a bad cup of coffee with this brand. We're Lavazza fans.

We'd gotten these beans before, and they're excellent quality with fine taste, particularly for the cost per pound.



However, for some unknown reason, the most recent order just chews my wife's stomach up. She also says they taste acidic to her. I drink my coffee with milk, so they taste fine to me and and I've had no problems, but I have a mostly cast-iron stomach anyway.



So they're sitting on the shelf right now and we're drinking other kinds of coffee that don't give my wife nausea, pain, or heartburn.



If you have a sensitive stomach, be careful. If you don't, give 'em a try.

Great coffee if you grind and prepare it properly. I set my Kitchen Aid Burr grinder on the grind (7.5) one step down from espresso grind so it's very fine but not powdery. When I tried to grind it more coarse the coffee didn't taste good. Then I use my drip coffee maker with a cone (not basket) filter and make a full pot. I found if you make only half a pot the coffee doesn't devolop the same aroma. I use a heaping half cup of whole beans, grind them for a 12/8 cup coffee maker (average size coffee maker).

This coffee hits the spot 100 %, no complaints. No burned bean taste, no bitter taste, just a nice, smooth cup of coffee.

I was so excited by the positive reviews here, so I gave this a shot. I have a decent Krups drip coffee maker that makes good coffee using lots of other brands (I usually buy my coffee at Trader Joes or Whole Foods). I grind my beans just before drinking and experimented three times with this Lavazza Gran Filtro. At first I thought I made the coffee too weak; then too strong; then assumed I had not ground the beans properly. All three pots were horrid. The strongest brew had a weird chemical after-taste that would not go away even after chewing gum. Yuck!



Anyone want to buy my unopened second bag?
