This Gran Filtro is my favorite so far of the Lavazza coffees I have tried (Rosso, gold can, black can espressos). While the other three were made for espresso, I used them instead to make regular coffee in the Cuisinart coffee maker. They were all good, but seemed to lack a bit of... something, perhaps because they were meant to be extracted in an espresso machine rather than dripped through a coffeemaker. For those, I used seven tablespoons of coffee to one quart of water. I figured with these mini-bricks I would have to adjust the amount of water I used, but I didn't. One of these with a quart of water suits my taste perfectly. Since I choose not to grind my own beans, I love that each of these little 2.25-oz. vacuum packs is good for one pot, so the pre-ground coffee isn't getting stale overnight. I would like it if Amazon would offer the dark roast variety of Gran Filtro in the 2.25-oz. size, as well.

We have been looking everywhere for pre-measured coffee that has a nice bold flavor -- the regular old Colombian you get in restaurants is OK, but he is a Kona / espresso fan, so we needed something with a little more "oomph." Hilton Hotels offers Lavazza Gran Filtro coffee pods for in-room coffee. Normally, in-room coffee is hit or miss (mostly miss), and I initially thought Lavazza would be the same, as I'd never heard of it until then. Boy, was I wrong! It isn't too strong, nor too acidic, and it tastes great without creamer or too much sugar (which I like lots of both in my coffee). I liked it so much that I decided to order these little bags.

After discovering this coffee I do not think I would brew anything else at home ever again. Lavazza is excellent, and I should try more of their varieties. So far out of the gold and gran filtro dark, this one is the best.

This coffee has a very subtle and smooth flavor, hints of chocolate and it is slightly sweet. It is easy to drink without milk and should not be mixed with sugar. Use a coffee press to make it and you can taste how delicate it is. And, although its imported from Italy, buying it online is cheaper than buying most coffees in the store.

There's no reason not to buy this online if you like coffee, except if you have a problem with pre-ground coffee. But, keep it in an airtight bag and it doesn't spoil too fast.

We've been drinking this coffee for quite some time (have it shipped automatically each month from Amazon) - for the price and quality, it's almost always been very good. The most recent shipment, though, is undrinkable (both bags). Not only are the coffee beans of a lower quality, but there is a chemical taste that's very worrisome. This is my preferred coffee. I drink this daily. Strong but smooth and never bitter. I like this particular packaging since it gives me enough coffee for 3 to 4 weeks. So I can order it via Amazon Subscribe and Save. These bags are pretty large, so make sure you have some good air-tight containers to store the beans in once you've opened the packaging. One issue I have is that some of the time, the bags arrive without the vacuum seal intact. (Normally the beans will be vacuum-packed and you can see bumps in the packaging caused by the tight fit over the beans. Like in the picture. I have not noticed this detracting from the flavor though I expect it does somewhat.
