I expected better from Lavazza having been introduced to it in Rome last year. In perspective, I usually grind my espresso beans (Brazil Sweet Blue is my favorite) immediately before brewing and I always buy beans that have been roasted no more than 1 week ago. This obviously skew my taste toward fresh product and these pods are definitely not that. Convenient, though.

I have had plenty of espresso in coffeeshops that was inferior to Lavazza pods. Good, strong, flavorful blend -- in a convenient and reliable package. That said, it's not the same as just-ground, perfectly tamped coffee run through a $10,000 machine -- but it's a great daily cup.

I like these and both of the Espressione (classic & 100% arabica) E.S.E. pods. Have had some bad luck with other pods (Baronet in particular). These are very consistent in the espresso that they make and have excellent crema. And they're the least expensive that I could find on amazon or locally, so I'd recommend them pretty well. Grinding my own coffee (and having roasted it as well), I sometimes make a better espresso than the pods. But not everytime if I don't get the grounds tamped just right. 150 pods should last you a week. At least!

I had a chance to test these ese pods when I received two of them with my new Handpresso wild. I used one with the Handpresso and one with my Hamilton Beach espresso maker. Both tasted heavenly, smooth with no bitterness. I got more Crema with the Handpresso but the Hamilton Beach made it warmer. Well I can now save some money as I used to use My Francis X8 with Illy capsules. Each Illy capsule costs 75 cents a piece even if you buy 4 cans ( 21 capsule in each ) at a time while the Lavazza pod costs 33-35 cents if you buy 150 pods at a time. You get more Crema with Illy but the taste is similar or a little below the Lavazza. Now my next step is to get some Illy fine ground coffee with a good tamper and use it with my Hamilton Beach, it will cost much less than the capsules. By the way, I am not trying to be cheap. I spent a lot of money on expensive espresso machine above $1000 and got convinced not to waste more money anymore. They may make slightly? better espresso but with repair and maintenance they cost you more than daily visits to Starbucks or other Coffee shops. I believe this is the most economical way to enjoy a decent cup of espresso or cappuccino. If you want to make the ultimate cup of espresso get yourself a manual Quickmill Anita or a Pavoni with expensive grinder and practice different grinds and become an artist. True it needs a lot of work but is better and cheaper than going for the super automatic junk machines they sell nowadays with $1000-3000 each. By the way those expensive one button machines do not make better espresso than the non automatic ones. Please believe me. It comes from experience.

Hilton Hotels offers Lavazza Gran Filtro coffee pods for in-room coffee. Normally, in-room coffee is hit or miss (mostly miss), and I initially thought Lavazza would be the same, as I'd never heard of it until then. Boy, was I wrong! It isn't too strong, nor too acidic, and it tastes great without creamer or too much sugar (which I like lots of both in my coffee). I liked it so much that I decided to order these little bags.

I just received my order of Lavazza Espresso bar.



The espresso I made with it (I usually pull a double ristretto - 14 grams of coffee into the portafilter, and I pull about a 1 ounce shot) was rich, sweet and syrupy, with mild acidity and lots of fruity, nutty, and chocolatey notes. It had thick, rich crema on top.



It's a little more acidic than the Lavazza "crema e gusto", and a bit less acidic than the Lavazza that comes in the black can. Similar acidity level to the Illy medium roast espresso. Just right for my taste, but obviously, everyone has different preferences on the matter.



Obviously, pre-ground espresso can't be as good as the best ground-right-before-brewing espresso (like going to Blue Bottle, or Intelligentsia), but as far as pre-ground espresso goes, this is about as good as it gets.

We bought this coffee as a replacement for Lavazza Supercrema while my wife cannot drink caffeine, and found it of uneven quality. We use it for making espresso in a Saeco Odea Giro, which brews consistently high-quality espresso from the Supercrema beans. However, some of the espressos from this decaf were excellent while other brews had a bit of a weird taste. Whether it's due to the visible inhomogeneity of the beans, I cannot tell. Or maybe this coffee is for what it says: drip coffee. Either way, we'll keep looking for better espresso beans. :-)

Lavazza espresso beans are wonderful! Excellent crema, never bitter. I mix my beans 50/50 decaf / full espresso because we drink so much daily and its a delight! This is the best decaf bean for a super-automatic espresso machine because it is a low oil bean annd won't clog up the grinder. I like coffee and I love using my plunger. In Australia there is a version of Lavazza ground decaf coffee in an aqua coloured packet. I was really hoping that this coffee would taste like that one. It doesn't.



This coffee is really quite nice and better than most you get in Safeway or Giant. But, it isn't a complex flavor. So, it is good for afternoons but that wonderful "morning coffee" taste that really gets me going isn't there.



I was an idiot and didn't realise that this is three bags of coffee beans not pre-ground coffee. Wish i had been more careful as it is a hassle to grind it all the time.

I roast my own coffee and consider myself to be a bit of a coffee snob. While I do sometimes drink coffee with caffeine, or do half-caf, I often drink decaf because I'm hyper enough without it.



The bottom line here is that this is an outstanding, full-bodied coffee. It developed excellent crema (the reddish-brown foam that forms on a proper shot of espresso) and has a wonderful flavor and aroma. No one would ever suspect that this was a decaffinated coffee if you didn't tell them.



The beans were extremely fresh and they didn't overroast the beans, the way that some major chains seem to do. This is a very nice and satisfying coffee. I strongly recommend it.

I have tried some many kinds of decaf espresso. This one is on my top list. It produces good crema and aroma, nice after taste. I make latte with it or just straight espresso. In fact, I have switched to it from Illy decaf due to the good price with a comparable quality.

Disappointing taste, disappointing response by seller. Opened the 2-lb. bag of beans, and there was no aroma. Made my cappuccino & my husband's black espresso: no pleasing flavor, in fact unpleasant flavor. Tried again, to be certain. Not good! Mailed entire bag back at my expense, as no answer via phone on Friday evening & wanted to get it over and done with. Received call a few days later from a rude and insulted rep. who chastised me for returning without authorizarion. The policy is no returns on coffee. Refused me a credit or even in-house credit. I let my platinum credit card handle it, the seller has the coffee beans and my money!

No need for a detailed review, these beans make great espresso. I have a Gaggia Classic espresso maker and a Krups burr grinder to grind the beans, and this trio (Lavazza Super Crema Beans + machine + grinder) makes fantastic espresso every time. The crema is perfect, there is not the slightest hint of bitterness. My only warning about these beans is that if you own an espresso maker at home, you should be real careful buying these beans as you may find yourself going crazy making espressos. These beans consistently make an espresso that is as good or better than anything I've found commercially in the US (and I'm not going to rant about the coffee beverage that Starbucks sells as espresso and puts in a paper cup). This bag of espresso beans is definitely more expensive than what you can find in the grocery store (or elsewhere), but this is a case of you get what you pay for. If you like espresso, this is money well spent.

Being a long time consumer of Lavazza Creama E Gusto which I find most enjoyable, I thought I'd give Super Creama a try.Very disapointing on flavor and fullness. For a latte I find it necessary to double the quantity in the basket and cut the milk by 80-90% so instead of a 10 oz

double, it's a single shot expresso with a dash of milk. The bean is a medium brown in color that is reflected in it's charater. Back to "Creama E Gusto"

I bought a high End Gaggio Espresso machine for my wife for a special occasion last year. While searching around for espresso beans I couldn't find any that reminded me of Italy. Finding the Lavazza Super Crema was the best. Especially in the 2.2lbs bag. So you know we go through a bag in 45 to 60 days. I've given up drinking regular coffee and now either go Espresso or Cafe American.



I would recommend this Espresso to anyone who would enjoy a smooth, and aromatic blend and the Crema is the best. Buon bere.

I was first unimpressed at the taste and performance of the Lavazza pods, but I think it had to do with my initial lack of experience with my machine (Rancilio Silvia) and the loosely packed pods as other reviews have mentioned.



Once I got accustomed to getting the correct temperature water while pulling my shot and also dealing with the loosely packed pods (I use my tamper to just pack it into the filter basket), I have noticed a marked improvement in taste and crema production.



Yes, they tend to pull a little too fast (10-15 seconds. My understanding is that even single shots should pull for the same amount of time), but for the convenience, what more can you ask for? I'm not one of those people who is willing to invest an exponential amount of effort to achieve the 99th percentile if, for a minimum amount of work, I can accomplish the 90th. The fact that cleanup is much easier is also a nice plus. Call my lazy if you will, but that's just what I value.



For those who have grown accustomed to drinking Starbucks cigarette butts or some of the finer dark roasts that have dominated US of A (I am a Peet's freak), this coffee might be a shocker at first taste. It's a medium roast which many Europeans tend to prefer in their espresso and might take some getting used to. If you're more of a straight espresso drinker, you might find a medium roast like this coffee more sweet and fruity on the palette as it leaves less of a lingering bitter aftertaste.



Bottom line, it's a great bang for the buck and with the convenience/consistency factor of the ESE pod, I'm willing to overlook the fact that it doesn't pull that ever elusive "God shot" (even most cafes sell mediocre espresso). If that last 10% does matter for you, then get the whole bean stuff.

i love Lavazza coffee. some of the best coffee in the world and sold all over europe. these pods are OK but they could be packages better. the coffee is loose on some of the pods causing the coffee to pour too fast. maybe they are prices this way because of it. i usually have to pay more for 150 pod boxes.



all in all, i would buy them again and just make sure i tamp the pod a bit before each use.

I have been using these pods every day for probably a year now and I'm still happy with them. They save me a step and some mess in the morning. I make a latte every single morning and these crank out out a good shot with nice crema more reliably than when I used to grind Illy. With the extra discount for subscription service, they're also a great deal.
