I ordered this on the autoship because it was the only lavazza available at the time. I'm a true espresso drinker and I found this coffee to be not up to the lavazza standards. It has a weak flavor and flat finish. The crema is good, but that just tells us that there's a lot of robusto beans in it. To me it tastes like supermarket quality coffee. If you look on their website it doesn't even tell you what the blend is. I would not recommend buying this blend.

We discovered Lavazza coffee while staying in an upscale club in Chicago. The coffee maker in the room had Lavazza Gran Filtro as the choice. I was impressed by the coffee coming out of this little machine, but figured it was just the opulence of the place overwhelming my taste buds. Then I discovered a small Lavazza coffee shop nearby and the coffee was even better. My love for Lavazza coffee was born.



But alas, too much caffeine makes me nuts. Could the decaf be any good? It is! The same smooth, slightly sweet, never bitter taste of Gran Filtro comes through in the decaf. We keep both the regular and decaf on hand and regularly get good reviews on the coffee we serve. I've stopped buying anything else.

I am a regular expresso coffee drinker of some duration, having been brought up in an Italian household. Further, I've lived in Rome and have spent 13 of the last 14 Septembers in Italy. In short, I have some experience in the matter.



It has been my custom to bring home various expresso coffees from Italy upon our return. Lavazza makes several types of coffee, and I've tried them in the past. The results of my purchase of the 8 oz cans confirms my earlier suspicion that it is of modest and moderate quality. The brewed coffee has a cloudy and turbid appearance, with fair taste quality.



In my view, and that of most Italians, if one can only buy Lavazza Qualita Oro, then do so, but, unquestionably, Illy is the brand to buy.

We'd gotten these beans before, and they're excellent quality with fine taste, particularly for the cost per pound.



However, for some unknown reason, the most recent order just chews my wife's stomach up. She also says they taste acidic to her. I drink my coffee with milk, so they taste fine to me and and I've had no problems, but I have a mostly cast-iron stomach anyway.



So they're sitting on the shelf right now and we're drinking other kinds of coffee that don't give my wife nausea, pain, or heartburn.



If you have a sensitive stomach, be careful. If you don't, give 'em a try.

Great coffee if you grind and prepare it properly. I set my Kitchen Aid Burr grinder on the grind (7.5) one step down from espresso grind so it's very fine but not powdery. When I tried to grind it more coarse the coffee didn't taste good. Then I use my drip coffee maker with a cone (not basket) filter and make a full pot. I found if you make only half a pot the coffee doesn't devolop the same aroma. I use a heaping half cup of whole beans, grind them for a 12/8 cup coffee maker (average size coffee maker).

This coffee hits the spot 100 %, no complaints. No burned bean taste, no bitter taste, just a nice, smooth cup of coffee.

I was so excited by the positive reviews here, so I gave this a shot. I have a decent Krups drip coffee maker that makes good coffee using lots of other brands (I usually buy my coffee at Trader Joes or Whole Foods). I grind my beans just before drinking and experimented three times with this Lavazza Gran Filtro. At first I thought I made the coffee too weak; then too strong; then assumed I had not ground the beans properly. All three pots were horrid. The strongest brew had a weird chemical after-taste that would not go away even after chewing gum. Yuck!



Anyone want to buy my unopened second bag?

Excellent Service, fast shipping and careful packaging. I love a good deal and this coffee is not your inexpensive variety. In my local stores I'm looking at 7.95 when on sale. The fact that I can get 20 bricks for under a $100.00 is fantastic. I'd rather buy this in bulk. I have purchased twice from this vendor. OK, if you know espresso, you should know Lavazza. If you don't, you aren't paying attention. You can get this stuff in most specialty food stores, Italian markets, and upscale grocery stores, but why pay anywhere from $5.50 to $7.00 a brick when you can get a case of vacuum packed loveliness for $4.50 a pop? I'm half way through mine since ordering, and the last is as fresh as the first. I'm guessing I could wait another year and it would still be fine.



In case you dont know Lavazza, the Crema e Gusto is a mild blend - very smooth, a bit chocolaty, and a very nice texture and mouth feel. Best served piping hot. I make mine on the stove top stainless Alessi three cup and it never fails to please. At half the price of Illy, there is no comparison. In case you like Illy, this is a more robust blend then they make - Illy is probably the mildest and smoothest espresso I know, but it doesn't do it for me.
